I sure wish I liked it - it's way cheaper than the pasta I do like.

I keep a pack in the backpack on every trip. It's my emergency supply. I also keep a couple of packs in my truck just in case I get stuck at work in the event of an ice storm or hurricane.

Shudder... I know it is something a lot of people like but I just can't stomach spam. Watching Food Network's show "Unwrapped" certainly didn't help... lol

While it smells/looks like cat food when it plops out of the ol' sack (I was nervously looking around for hungry cougars.....) once sizzling it, it changes into baconey-goodness. Lol.....

Not that I got to eat any. Ford literally ate the whole pots worth after TwoFourtyJeff, Trailhead and I got in a couple bites of noodles. heh....

Ya, that sounds appetizing . Sorry for the sarcasm and please don't take offense. We eat with our senses and smell is the sense most closely related to taste. That is probably the reason I detest SPAM and the like.

I do like bacon (what meatatarian doesn't?) and would probably just use real bacon - at least I know what is in that. Hmmmm... I think an unsmoked pancetta style bacon would work well in this actually (for those of us Spam haters).

That would work well - I get packs of pancetta cubed up where it comes in 2 2.5 ounces halves. It is a fantastic buy and no waste as you use half a package for a meal. In the states it is carried at Safeway in the deli section.

Btw, I actually used Chuka Soba noodles in my version (I didn't have any ramen on hand) but granted, most people cannot get the right chuka soba noodles readily. (There is only one brand I can get that uses tumeric for the color, not food dye - and only at the large Asian stores can I get them). I use them to make pan fried noodles (Lo Mein) quite often. The noodles are basically un-fried ramen.

Are there any good soba-style or ramen-ish gluten-free noodles on the market? I haven't looked much yet; but I was wondering if there was something that would cook up a lot faster on the trail than most rice noodles, which tend to take 12+ minutes, at home anyway.
